Now you’re ready to start putting your values to work. It’s one thing to develop an ethical grid of universal principles (truth) but quite another to work it out in your daily life. Let me offer a strategy for doing this. Separate your life into three major areas: personal,family and business. Now, I am going to choose for you a MAXIMIZERS principle that you can put to work in each one of these areas. The principle is: Zero in on caring for people, which I develop in greater depth in chapter 7. I call this “servant leadership” It is a code that urges you to build up other people in all possible ways. Next, think about ways you can apply this principle. Ask yourself questions about how you can be a servant leader in your personal life. With whom do you have regular contact? Perhaps it’s a gas station attendant, a waitress, or people you call on the phone. How can you be a source of encouragement to these people. That’s why in this generation we well need to have an action on our values not only in the tip of our tough.
