It pays to learn how to remain in a positive frame of mind even when a few hurdles pop up in your path without a warning. When something negative or scary happens, try to see what you can do to change the situation.
Here are a few tips HOW…
* Learn to laugh. Laugh at yourself, laugh at the situation, and laugh with others. Humor is an ‘upper’. It improves your mood and relieves stress.
* Spend more time with family, friends and relatives. Choose friends you can relax with and who will listen to you when you are stressed.
* Try stress management techniques. Meditation, yoga, stretching while listening music on your ipods, getting a massage, reading or taking a nap.
* Talk to yourself every day. Say positive things. For instance, ‘I can do it’, ‘I’m getting better’, ‘I can ask for help when I need it’, ‘I love you or I’m all right’.
* Stress often signifies that your body needs to change. Use this signal to sort out your changes. Drwa up a detailed list for what needs to be changed and then discuss those changes with people who you think will be able to help you. Of course, you need to choose this group with care.
* When you are stresses, imagine how you would advice a friend who was undergoing the same stress. Then follow your own advice.
* Don’t blame yourself for everything. It’s certainly not a productive response.
* If you have tried several of the above-mentioned methods but don’t seem to be able to hadle your stress, you may need to seek help from a professional counsellor.
