Travel Tips: Traveling with Children…
Surviving a long-half flight with children in tow is a daunting task for even the most experienced traveler. Plenty of preparation, however, can help minimize the potential for catastrophe – for you and everyone around you.
* When you have young children, you’ll likely find you need a lot less stuff for yourself than you ever imagined. Save the space in your hand luggage for things fo the children.
* A flight of time is no time to play by the same rules you might adhere to at home. Bring with you a Nintendo DS game, wet wipes, snakcs, apple juice and a change of clothing. Other good bets are a couple of empty plastic grocery bags in case of an emergency.
* While you want to be prepared, you won’t be allowed to bring every single thing you might needing in your hand luggage. Dress in layers to avoid having to pack too many spare clothes for yourself and your family. Also, spend a few days keeping track of exactly how many nappies you’re likely to need during the course of your journey (don’t forget to factor in time spent in transit and before you board).
* Keep your family’s eating habits in mind. flight attendants – though genrally eager to help – may not be able to help you at the exact moment you need them, so you may want a bottle of water and a few sealed juice boxes that won’t leak, plus small Ziplock bags or containers with snacks you know your kids will eat.
*One of the best cures for ear pressure is swallowing, so be ready with a bottle, juice box or some small snack the children can tuck into for take offs and landings.
