The weather is getting warmer and the beach is calling. You pack your towels, snacks, and sunscreen. Chatter about boogie boarding and sandcastle building fills the air. But you arrive at the beach only to find your favorite spot speckled with plastic containers, newspapers, and food wrappers. What’s going on? Our ocean provides us with oxygen to breath, drives our climate and weather, brings rain to the farmlands, and food to our table. Our seas offer us recreation, transportation, protein, medicine, energy, and unrelenting beauty. But experts agree, our ocean is in crisis. Luckily, it isn’t too late to make a difference. And your kids can help. David Helvarg, founder of Blue Frontier (www.bluefrontier.org) and author of50 Ways to Save the Ocean offers parents the following ideas to share with kids who care.

No litterbugging. When paying the ocean a visit, don’t leave anything behind. This includes food, toys, containers, paper goods, or clothing. Pack your food in reusable containers, and dine with washable utensils and cloth napkins. Reusing items is the best way to learn about sustainability.

Wear waterproof sunscreen. Don’t be a one-kid oil spill. Greasy, oily sunscreen leaves a residue on everything, including the ocean. This is especially important if your water-lovers are in and out of the ocean and need sunscreen reapplied throughout the day.

Protect wildlife. Sure, sea stars are beautiful, but they belong to the sea. Curb the desire to bring home souvenirs such as marine life, shells, seaweed, or driftwood. Never chase or feed coastal wildlife. If Fido is along for the ride, leash and distance him from any marine life. Always be sure to clean up after him.

Stay on the path. Sliding or jumping down sand dunes may be fun for kids, but it’s not fun for the little creatures and plants who call these environments “home.” Walk on the established paths and elevated walkways. Always avoid driving through sand dunes, soft sand, and wetland areas.

It’s okay to be a snitch. Good stewardship is all about awareness. If you or your kids see someone destroying beach property, marine animal habitats, or dishonoring the environment, report the sighting to local authorities.

But how do you really define music? Some says without music life is boring.. Well i guess I agree more, Music does not only pertain to what your hear on television, from Fender Jazz Bass, radio, or any other forms that generates sound.

Music is life. But wait is sound A music? Well i guess everything you hear in this world is music. Can you imagine life without it? No birds chirping in the forest, no sea breeze in the ocean, no noises coming out from the vehicles and etc. you think its possible? Well life must have so vague.. I myself cant live without it.

Nowadays and due to the modern technology anything that goes around that produces sound enriches our mind. Our modern era gave us the possibilty to go beyond our expectations. Music has been derive and use in many groundless supposition which allows us to expand how far can we go.

Well, back to our primitive time any other forms of sound relates to music is I guess one factor how far we succeeded today. Sometimes back to basics is an essential element of how brilliant we are. It is undoubtedly true that life without music or sound is not possible, so whether we like it or not by just talking we create sound and that music follows.

Every time I open her closet, I won’t be surprise if some things well fall from inside due to a large number. In fact, sometimes she asked me to find her shoes inside her closet and I got a hard time to find it ’cause there were many! Urghh!! So, what I did is turn back to her and said, why don’t you go yourself and find it ’cause its a girl thing and I can’t find the one you need.

The bottomline of sharing you this is that my sister is an avid fan of womens wide shoes to the extent that she even buys some which in the real sense she’ll just use it once and later on buy another one. Oh! Well, I’m not compromising! Just an opinion. As for now, nothing new she still loves to collect whatever she think is great for her. Love yah sis!

We all know about Reading, ‘Riting, and ‘Rithmetic to help our children learn in school. But, the new Three Rs are just as important—Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce—to help our children learn to take care of the environment.

Learning to care for the world around us is a good lesson for children. Model the Three Rs at home to help your children and the environment. Try the following ideas from the Kids’ Pages of theNational Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to help your kids recycle.

Recycle

Don’t throw away anything that can be recycled. Check with your sanitation department or waste service to find out what you can recycle from your home and what you’ll have to take to other sites.

Think before you throw away these items:

Acid batteries Oil Aluminum cans Paint Building materials Paper Cardboard Plastic bags Chemicals Plastic bottles Electronic equipment Steel cans Glass bottles/jars Appliances Lead Wood Magazines Writing/copy paper Newspaper Yard waste

Reuse

Think reusable, not disposable, when you buy. When driving, take along washable cups or travel mugs. Many restaurants and convenience stores will fill or refill your own mug.

Remember, many plastic disposables—including cups, plates, utensils, and food storage bags—can be washed and reused.

Think repair, not replace, and donate items that you are replacing, such as appliances and old bicycles. Charitable outlets like Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and many others are probably located right in your area.

Hold a yard sale or give away items you no longer use. Shop at yard sales or other outlets for “gently used” items to see if you can’t find what you need before buying new.

Use cloth instead of paper—cloth bags for shopping, cloth napkins at your table, and cloth diapers for baby.

Reduce

Buy in larger volumes to reduce the amount of waste from packaging. The “large economy size” can save you money and has only one package to dispose of, not two or three.

When you buy only one or two items at the store, say “no” to a paper or plastic bag to hold them.

Say “no” to junk mail. Call toll-free numbers in unwanted catalogs and ask to be removed from mailing lists. When possible, use the Internet for paying bills and reading the news, catalogs, and other information.

Start a garden to get food that isn’t processed and packaged. Compost biodegradable waste to create rich soil for your garden and to cut down on trash.

Resources:

NIEHS Kids’ Page. This site from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is filled with tips to help kids and families recycle, reuse, and reduce what they throw away each day.

Recycle City. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) provides lots of information for families. The Dumptown Game is designed for older children, but clicking on parts of the city is fun and provides tips for you and your child.

The Recycle Guys. The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources offers things to learn about recycling and fun activities. Just click on “Why Recycle?” or “Kids” to find recycle crafts and great ideas.

Planet Protector (PDF). What can you do with a glass jelly jar after you’ve finished the jelly? The EPA has a special coloring book to show kids some uses for that jelly jar.
